An EMS provider needs several elements to be successful in this industry: a strong leader with a vision, talented and dedicated individuals, and cutting-edge technology. CAMtek, Inc. boasts all three, which is why after almost 20 years they are still thriving in a down market.

In 1999, President Christine Davis brought together a group of people with electrical engineering, process engineering, and quality engineering skills. With more than 65 years of combined experience and industry expertise, they sought to provide customers with high-quality, cost-effective manufacturing solutions that meet their needs in an ever-evolving industry.

When holding themselves to such a high standard of performance and customer service, CAMtek knew that it was vital to use only industry-leading technology.  This was one of the main reasons they chose to partner with Hanwha.

“Our first machine was made by Hanwha and it ran for 19 years,” commented Ms. Davis. “We looked at other platforms but they couldn’t match the price, quality, and excellent service of Hanwha, so it only made sense to stay with them.”

CAMtek purchased a complete line from Hanwha including two Hanwha SM482 Plus Placement Machines. “The SM482’s support our Kan Ban orders,” added Ms. Davis. “Our Kan Ban jobs were taking up to five days on the machines. Now we can complete them in less than three days, which is quite a significant improvement.”

Hanwha’s SM482 Plus can be applied to components from 0402 (01005) microchips to 22 mm IC components by applying on-the-fly recognition technology, patented by Hanwha, that enables component placement at the highest speed among all medium-speed component placers.

Additionally, it can recognize components up to 15 mm in height and up to 75 mm in length with a 45 mm FOV fixed camera configured with mega-pixel resolution and high-performance multi-stage illumination for optimum flexibility. It also allows high-precision (30 µm) placement of IC components and provides a polygon recognition algorithm for easy registration of odd-shaped components. Synergized with Hanwha pick-and-place equipment are high-performance printing, reflow, and PCB handling technologies

“Hanwha’s partnership with CAMtek is long standing and mutually beneficial to our companies,” commented Jonny Nichols, Director of Sales & Marketing, North America, Hanwha. “The challenges of developing, producing and supporting cost-effective PCB assembly equipment technology are equal to those of EMS companies in North America, where every second counts towards profitability in high-mix production environments. Hanwha line solutions include best-in-class process technologies for producing quality results while maximizing uptime for a world-class return on investment. Thank you, CAMtek, for your continued confidence in partnership with Hanwha.”

Certified as a Woman Business Enterprise, CAMtek is an active member of diversity programs throughout the United States, and an industry-leading supplier to many fortune 500 companies.  CAMtek also actively supports the IPC in its efforts to improve industry standards. President Davis continually serves on the EMS Council and Steering Committees, supporting electronics manufacturing services companies globally.

With Hanwha and CAMtek both being proponents of cutting-edge technology, world-class customer service, and quality of the highest standard, it is no surprise that the two pair well together and will continue to support each other for many years to come.
